About Me

I was born on the island of Dominica in the Caribbean and grew up in NY. Though I moved to America when I was a baby, my ties to my birth country remain strong. One of the ways I get to show my love for my birthplace is through the 501c3 charity DARDA (Dominica-American Relief & Development Association) that coordinates and provides relief to the island.

I became interested in web development after an ill-fated attempt to become a nail polish blogger. While working on the blog, I realized that I was more excited about designing the website than I was about creating the content. My first attempts at dabbling in HTML for the blog sparked an interest that continues to this day. I knew that with the right tools as a developer, I could forge a new career path and simultaneously utilize my skills to help DARDA improve and expand its fundraising efforts online.

I love to travel, curl up with a good book or cower under the blanket while watching a scary movie. I also enjoy musicals and classic films with sappy love stories. (I’m a sucker for a tearjerker!). One of my latest interests is in paper planners. While I know it seems contradictory that I would be interested in web development while still using a paper planner, I have found that in the hi-tech world of today, the simplicity of writing on paper provides a welcome respite from hours in front of a computer screen. This dichotomy of hi-tech versus old-world systems has become a niche industry with a rapidly growing fanbase.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

— Dr. Maya Angelou

As stated by the late Maya Angelou, my mission for this coding program is not merely to survive it but to thrive within it! I hope to be able to take my new coding skills to great heights and use them to inspire and enrich the things about which I am passionate.
